About Kavana

Kavana is a new online clinic for adults in England, set up by a pharmacist, working with a GP. We'll assess adults for ADHD, start and adjust treatment, and work with GPs on shared care, all by video. Our free planning app is already live, coaching comes next, and we apply to the Care Quality Commission in 2027. We are not seeing patients yet.

We're building it carefully: time for every assessment, every diagnosis confirmed by a consultant psychiatrist, a plan with the GP from day one, and every price shown upfront.

The role

You would be our founding clinical lead, named in our CQC registration. That means shaping the clinical side before a single patient is seen: the pathway, the templates, the prescribing policy and how we check our own work. Once we open, you confirm diagnoses, set treatment plans and supervise a small team.

What we ask you to do

  • Agree and sign off our clinical pathway, assessment templates, and medicines and prescribing policy. Most of the policies are already drafted for you to challenge and change.
  • Review each completed assessment in full and confirm, change or withhold the diagnosis, meeting the patient by video whenever the case needs it.
  • Set the treatment plan before anyone starts medicine, and see complex cases, including co-occurring conditions.
  • Review diagnoses made elsewhere before treatment is started.
  • Supervise the clinicians who assess and prescribe, including a GP developing her adult ADHD practice, whose assessments and diagnoses you review, and the prescriber who manages treatment.
  • Chair a short monthly clinical governance meeting: incidents, audits and prescribing reviews.

What we take off your plate

  • Booking, payments and reminders, handled by us through the clinic system.
  • Everything collected before you start: questionnaires, rating scales, the informant form, identity checks and GP details.
  • Paperwork after: letter templates, sending GP letters, and chasing shared care requests.
  • The system itself: one clinic system for video, notes, letters and prescribing, set up and paid for by us.
  • Operations and compliance, run by our founder as registered manager, so your time goes on clinical decisions.

How it fits with your other work

  • About half a day a month to start (around four hours), at times that suit you. You log your hours for reviews, supervision, governance and advice between sessions, and we pay for all of them. Hours increase as demand grows, and only if you want them to.
  • No exclusivity. Many consultants do some private sessions alongside an NHS post; please check your NHS contract and tell your employer, as you would for any private practice.
  • Kavana is not a designated body. Your appraisal and revalidation stay with your current responsible officer, and we give you what you need for a whole-practice appraisal.

What you'll need to be successful

  • Full GMC registration with a licence to practise, on the specialist register in psychiatry.
  • Substantial experience assessing and treating adult ADHD, in line with NICE NG87.
  • Indemnity covering private remote practice and controlled drug prescribing. Kavana will also hold its own clinic cover.
  • An enhanced DBS check, which we arrange and pay for.
  • Comfort working by video, and interest in building something new.

The contract

A self-employed contract for services, not employment. You invoice us monthly and we pay within 14 days. The hourly rate is agreed with you before you start. You log your hours each month and invoice for them.

  • whether you have the right to work in the UK (we cannot sponsor visas)
  • the rate you would expect, and how many sessions a month you could offer
