Getting started
Is everything online?
Yes. Assessments and reviews are by video. Simple checks like blood pressure and weight are done at home or at a local pharmacy.
I live in Scotland, Wales or Northern Ireland. Can I use Kavana?
Not at first. Kavana is set up for adults in England, and shared care with GPs works differently elsewhere. Sign up anyway and we'll let you know if that changes.
Do I need a GP referral?
No. You can come to us directly. We'll ask for your GP's details so we can write to them with your consent, because that's what makes shared care possible later.
Who will assess me?
A clinician trained in adult ADHD assesses you by video and gives you your results. Every diagnosis is confirmed by our consultant psychiatrist, who reviews your full assessment and will meet you too if anything needs a closer look. You'll know their names and registrations before your appointment.
How much will it cost?
We will publish our prices on our services page before booking opens. They will include the written report and a letter to your GP, with nothing hidden.
I'm already on an NHS waiting list. Can I still join?
Yes. A private assessment does not affect your place on an NHS list, and many people keep both going. Joining our mailing list commits you to nothing.
Do you take NHS Right to Choose referrals?
Not at first. Right to Choose needs an NHS contract, and new providers usually need a track record first. We'll look at it once the clinic has been running for a while. Until then Kavana is private only.
Will my GP take over prescribing afterwards?
Often, but not always, and it depends on your local NHS area. We tell you what your area usually does before you pay, and we explain the options if the answer is no. Read our guide to shared care.
Before you book
What will I need?
When assessments open, you'll book on the services page. These are the things to have ready before your appointment:
First, book your ADHD assessment. Then have these ready before your appointment:
- Your GP's details, so we can write to them with your consent.
- Photo ID, so we can check who you are before your first appointment.
- A blood pressure reading, from a home monitor or a free check at a local pharmacy.
- A quiet, private space with a phone, tablet or laptop that can do video.
- Someone who knew you as a child. Helpful but not essential. If there's nobody, the assessment still goes ahead.
We send a reminder of all of this before your appointment.
What if the assessment does not find ADHD?
If that happens, we explain why. You still get the full written report. It explains what we found, what else might explain how you feel (such as anxiety, low mood, sleep problems or stress) and next steps, including what to take to your GP.
I already have a diagnosis. Can you treat me?
Often, yes. If a UK clinician diagnosed you and you have the full written report, start with a diagnosis review. Your prescriber goes through the report and your health history with you by video. If the diagnosis meets national guidance, you go on to treatment. If it does not, we explain why, and what you paid comes off an assessment with us.
Is Kavana right for me?
It's better to know this before you pay. Kavana is not the right service if you:
- are under 18
- live outside England
- need urgent mental health support
- have a condition that needs to be seen in person
If that's you, we'll suggest where to go instead. If you need help now, see urgent help.
Prices and paying
Are there any extra costs?
Medicines and occasional tests are paid for outside our fees, and we tell you what they are before anything is arranged.
- Your medicines Paid at the pharmacy. On a private prescription this is usually about £25 to £160 a month, depending on the medicine, the dose, the pharmacy you use and what they have in stock. If your GP takes over under shared care, you pay only the standard NHS prescription charge instead, £9.90 per item, or nothing if you're exempt.
- Occasional tests If your health history means one is needed before treatment: a heart trace (ECG), usually about £70 to £150 privately, or a blood test, usually about £35 to £70.
Estimates based on typical UK private prices in 2026. Exact costs depend on the medicine, the pharmacy and its stock, and where the test is done.
Can I cancel or move an appointment?
You have 14 days to cancel for a full refund, unless an appointment has already taken place. Appointments moved with 48 hours' notice are free to rebook.
Ongoing care
How is membership paid?
Monthly by Direct Debit. You can cancel any time before your next payment.
Is this a subscription for medication?
No. It's a plan for the clinical care and support around your treatment. Medication is prescribed only where a clinician decides it's right for you at that review.
Coaching
Do I need a diagnosis?
No. Coaching is open to anyone who recognises the difficulties, diagnosed or not.
How is coaching different from therapy?
Therapy often explores feelings and past experiences. Coaching is practical and looks forward: routines, planning and getting things done. If you're struggling with your mental health, your GP is the best first step.
How many sessions will I need?
It depends on what you want help with. Some people need one or two sessions for a single problem. Many find three sessions give them time to try a new routine and adjust it. You can stop or carry on whenever you like.
Can my employer pay?
Yes. We can invoice your employer directly, and many people get coaching funded through Access to Work. How Access to Work works
Is it confidential?
Yes. Coaching records are kept separately from any clinic records, and nothing is shared without your consent.
What if I cannot make a session?
You can move a session for free with at least 48 hours' notice. With less notice, the session counts as used, but we're always reasonable about genuine emergencies.
