How ADHD assessments work
Every step from your first question to settled treatment.
- Check we can help, then book Answer a few quick questions and book a free 15-minute call if you want one. When booking opens, you book online with every price shown first.
- Before your assessment About an hour, at your own pace:
- Questionnaires about now and when you were younger
- A short form for someone who knew you as a child, if possible
- Your medical history, including your blood pressure, pulse and weight
- Your assessment and results 60 to 90 minutes by video call. A consultant psychiatrist checks your assessment, then your clinician talks you through the results. You get a written report, and we send a copy to your GP if you agree.
See what your report looks like
It's written about you, in everyday language, using the examples you gave us. It covers how the assessment was done, what we found, the outcome and what we recommend next, and ends with a section for your GP. The report is yours to keep, whatever the outcome.
The sections in every Kavana report - Treatment, if it's right for you
- Monthly check-ins to find the right dose, usually over 8 to 12 weeks
- Simple health checks at home or at a pharmacy
- Prescriptions sent to a pharmacy you choose
- Once you're settled We ask your GP to take over prescribing. If they say no, you can stay with us on a monthly plan. The free Kavana app and coaching are there if you want them.
Questions before you book
What will I need?
When assessments open, you'll book on the services page. These are the things to have ready before your appointment:
First, book your ADHD assessment. Then have these ready before your appointment:
- Your GP's details, so we can write to them with your consent.
- Photo ID, so we can check who you are before your first appointment.
- A blood pressure reading, from a home monitor or a free check at a local pharmacy.
- A quiet, private space with a phone, tablet or laptop that can do video.
- Someone who knew you as a child. Helpful but not essential. If there's nobody, the assessment still goes ahead.
We send a reminder of all of this before your appointment.
What if the assessment does not find ADHD?
If that happens, we explain why. You still get the full written report. It explains what we found, what else might explain how you feel (such as anxiety, low mood, sleep problems or stress) and next steps, including what to take to your GP.
I already have a diagnosis. Can you treat me?
Often, yes. If a UK clinician diagnosed you and you have the full written report, start with a diagnosis review. Your prescriber goes through the report and your health history with you by video. If the diagnosis meets national guidance, you go on to treatment. If it does not, we explain why, and what you paid comes off an assessment with us.
Is Kavana right for me?
It's better to know this before you pay. Kavana is not the right service if you:
- are under 18
- live outside England
- need urgent mental health support
- have a condition that needs to be seen in person
If that's you, we'll suggest where to go instead. If you need help now, see urgent help.
